Love Your Liver!

You have to love your liver, it works so hard for you.  Our livers are amazing.  Gosh without them we could not digest food, absorb nutrients or dispose of toxic substances from our bodies.  So protecting it does much to contribute to our overall health and wellbeing.
As the liver is the major organ for processing nutrients, metabolites, pollutants and excess hormones, it is essentially a ‘waste disposal’ unit for our bodies, all aspects of our health rely on the proper functioning of our liver.
The liver cleans the body’s blood supply of toxic substances by chemically processing them so they can be excreted from our systems.  It is also responsible for carbohydrate and protein metabolism as well as the blood lipo porteins (LDL and HDL) which regulate cholesterol, plus clotting factors and other substances crucial to proper blood functions.   Do you want to know how to love it?   Read the rest of this entry

Are you pooing enough?

There’s no other way to ask that!  Quite frankly, if you don’t poo, eliminate, ‘shit’, you are pretty much unwell.  It occured to me when I went to the toilet today, and I did a decent poo, that this was a relief, a wonderful anatomical bodily function that if I couldn’t do, would mean serious repercussions.  I got up from the throne and looked back down at what I just let go, and was content and satisfied that I was in pretty good shape.  The colour of my waste was light brown, it came out easy, I didn’t strain, and there wasn’t any mucus around it.  Oh and while we are on the subject of ‘poo’, I didn’t just go once, this was the second time in a few hours.  I’m not trying to be a smarty pants here, I just think this is so important and often a subject that is taboo for some folk.  We have to talk about these things.  At Sunshine Ridge Retreat, we talk about poo all the time.  It’s a life or death sort of subject, so get used to it.

If you are eating a high fibre diet, drinking lots of water and moving your body with the right amount of exercise, you should be eliminating at least 3 times a day.  Read the rest of this entry

I don’t know about you reading this, but I certainly know that if I don’t keep active, especially during the colder months, my immune system will just pack it in.  There is so much evidence to support more physical activity with great immune defence in the colder months.

If you don’t exercise, you will attract more colds and flu’s to your body, and you will suffer from depression orientated conditions.  Keeping yourself moving, walking, stretching etc, is the key to maintaining a strong immune system and a happier outlook.

Even when it looks gloomy outside, I suggest  you get your coat on, rug up, and lace up your best walkers and get walking.  You will feel fantastic after 30 minutes of walking, and have a healthier appetite for a meal.  Burning the calories justifies the extra serving if you think you need it.   Read the rest of this entry
