Prevent Damp and Mould

Wet Wet Wet!
How are you going? I mean really, what are you feeling with all this continual rain? It gets to you, I know this. How many of you are experiencing a feeling of hopelessness and sadness watching the news with floods breaking out all over South East Queensland and now Northern New South Wales? It is a common feeling of frustration and hopelessness, and it’s a key contributor to feeling depressed, particularly as we are all missing out on that valuable Vitamin D, which we would be getting if there was a little sunshine about.
Sitting here at Cooroy, I’ve been swamped by so much water, every time I go down to the big shed, that I don’t bother to wash my hair because I’m always getting wet in the rain. But that is the least of my troubles, as I’m watching our drive way become a river and noticing that the top of it has washed away down the road. I’ve been helping my partner out with his business which is Damp Solutions Australia. One man’s pain is another man’s gain they say, and this is sadly the case for people all over Queensland in the grip of the worst floods in living memory.
Darryl is flat out servicing people with dehumidifiers and dry sacks and Dampp chasers and all sorts of devices that help with eliminating mould, mildew, damp conditions and basically helping one through horrendous situations where they are trying to keep their clothes, shoes, socks and room dry, and at the same time clean away the mould effectively. This is what Darryl of Damp Solutions does, and during these busy spells I help out where I can. I’ve been taking so many calls, that my throat is dry at the end of the day.
With Darryl, I co-authored the book ’7 Solutions To A Mould Free Home’. Right now I’m updating this book, and adding some extra information about cleaning homes naturally, dealing with Climate Change and learning about how to use Aromatherapy to keep a home healthy and safe for all who dwell within it (pets included). There will be a stack of new information in this book, and we hope to have it finished, printed and ready for everyone by the end of January 2011.
In the mean time, you may not have the book, or even a dehumidifier and you are wondering how to deal with these damp, musty situations. If you have power you can run a Dampp chaser, which is easy to install, along a wall in your wardrobe or in a cupboard. You can also use a dehumidifier which can suck in all that moisture before it lands on your clothes and books or anything else that is absorbable. You can also look at keeping the fans on, when it’s raining and close up the doors and windows. This will keep the humidity at bay, as its high humidity that creates an environment for mould and mildew to grow and thrive.
Get some vinegar (full strength) on a cotton rag and get stuck into that mould, but if it is prolific, please make sure you wear a mask or don’t touch it at all. Get some expert help by contacting a mould specialist (carpet cleaners that have mould remediation skills). For more information about how you can deal with this problem you can go to Darryl’s website www.dampsolutions.com.au and check out the home dehumidifiers and other products that help you through these trying times. You can also put your name down for the updated 7 Solutions Book by contacting myself on 0402 166 187… keep dry. Blessings. Annie Clark.
